Malawi president Lazarus Chakwera told the country’s national football team to regard themselves as more than just underdogs while honoring them for their victory over Uganda and qualification for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon. The Flames last qualified for the tournament in 2010 when they opened the tournament with a victory over Algeria, before being eliminated through defeats to hosts Angola and Mali.
President Chakwera also received gratitude from Flames captain John Banda as well as a request for more resources to be allocated towards footballers and coaches in the nation. Nyasa Times has more on the team’s visit to the State House in Lilongwe.
