Senegal and Egypt will be Africa’s representatives at the 2023 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup after coming out on top in their semifinal matchups against hosts Mozambique and Morocco respectively at the semifinals of the 2022 Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations on Wednesday. Egypt defeated rivals Morocco 5-4 in a close match that came down to the final moments with Ahmed Mohamed’s long distance shot taking a difficult bounce that sent the ball over the dive of Morocco goalkeeper Ismail El Ouariry.
The Senegalese team dominated in Group B but encountered a difficult and determined Mozambique team who surprised the three-time champions by jumping out to a 2-0 lead. However, Senegal surged back and avoided the upset by coming back with goals from Souleymane Coly and Babacar Fall before Mamadou Sylla won it late by finishing a rebound from close range.
