Botswana-Namibia cooperation on joint AFCON bid “going smoothly”

Following talks with a Namibian delegation, Botswana’s Minister of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture, Tumiso Rakgare, indicated that cooperation is moving along according to plan as the countries attempt to progress in their bid to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. The countries have announced a 60:40 share of hosting responsibilities with Botswana holding the 60% share and Motswana publication Mmegi reports that a bid committee has been established with both countries outlining and agreeing to what each’s duties will pertain.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe visited Botswana and offered his encouragement. The South African administrator remarked that both countries have plenty to gain from hosting the AFCON and declared that it is his intention for football in Botswana to grow. Motsepe also commended the Botswana Football Association for the accomplishment of the women’s national team, who qualified for their first ever Africa Women Cup of Nations this summer and is an indication of how the growth of football in the country is progressing.

Mmegi has more on the bid and Motsepe’s comments below.
