Despite nearly stumbling in the preliminary round of 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying against Chad, the expectations are high for the Gambia national team as the Scorpions prepare to kick off the group stage early in June due to their excellent run to the 2021 AFCON quarterfinals. Gambia will host South Sudan in Senegal for their opening Group G encounter on June 4 before setting off for an away match against Republic of Congo four days later.
Manager Tom Saintfiet announced his squad for the two games with attacking stars Musa Barrow and Assan Ceesay included among the names. Defensive leader Omar Colley will also be present to form a formidable center back pairing with James Gomez while midfield general Sulayman Marreh solidifies the heart of the Gambian formation.
