Black Stars: Mensah in stable condition, Lamptey set for debut in September AFCON qualifiers

Ghana’s 1-1 draw in Angola against Central African Republic had a frightening moment near the hour mark in the match when center back Jonathan Mensah was in a bad state following a nasty head-to-head collision. The match was delayed for several minutes as the Columbus Crew player’s condition was assessed and then stretchered into an ambulance to receive additional treatment at a hospital in Luanda. The Ghana Football Association has confirmed that Mensah is recovering from a head injury with further media reports indicating it is nothing more serious than a concussion.

In additional news for Black Stars supporters, Brighton and former England under-21 national team right back Tariq Lamptey’s switch to the Ghana national team has been confirmed after he completed his paperwork and watched Ghana’s 3-0 victory over Madagascar. Lamptey is set for a Ghana debut in the team’s second set of 2023 AFCON qualifying fixtures that will take place in September.
