The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) announced that it has filed a formal complaint to CAF demanding a replay of Zambia’s 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations semifinal against South Africa, a match the Copper Queens lost 1-0 with South Africa’s late winner arriving from a controversial penalty kick. Citing six specific incidents during the semifinal where the FAZ felt that Ethiopian center official Lidya Tafesse and her crew erred in judgment, it was requested that the result be cancelled and the match replayed.
The FAZ also pointed out that the semifinal was not the only match where the Zambian footballing body felt the officiating was unfair to the Copper Queens, declaring that the standard of refereeing was poor throughout the competition.
