Zamalek continued to look dominant but title rivals Al Ahly and Pyramids FC are forcing the White Castle to keep winning as all three teams turned in comfortable victories on Sunday. The current league leaders cruised to a 2-0 victory over Smouha, making a difficult top-5 opponent look easy to defeat with goals on either side of halftime from Ahmed Sayed “Zizo” and Seifeddine Jaziri. The Cairo side remain four points ahead of Pyramids FC and nine points ahead of Al Ahly with eight games to play, both of whom also won on Sunday.
Al Ahly’s recent indifferent form is costing them time and points in the title race and the Red Devils were further rocked by the news of Mohamed Sherif’s season being prematurely ended by injury. However, Ahly shook off an uneventful first half to score two goals in the final twenty minutes for a 2-0 home victory over El Gouna. Center back Ramy Rabia scored his first goal for the club since 2017 by heading in an Ali Maâloul corner kick and five minutes later Maâloul converted from the penalty spot to finish off the victory. Ahly are nine points behind with two games still to make up on the two teams above them.
Pyramids were dominant and showed no mercy in a 4-0 road victory over El Ismaily. Veteran playmaker Abdallah Said took a smart pass from Ramadan Sobhi in the 5th minute and the 37-year-old blasted a first time shot from eighteen yards past Ismaily keeper Mohamed Fawzi for his fourth league goal of the season. Sobhi added his own sharp strike in the 33rd minute and a penalty kick five minutes after to make it 3-0, only being denied a hat-trick just before halftime by an excellent Fawzi save from the penalty spot. Mahmoud Saber finished the scoring for Pyramids late by tallying the fourth late on.
Highlights are below from all three games.
