September AFCON qualifying fixtures postponed to March

Following a week of rumors and a long period of appeals, participating African nations at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar got their wish with news that September’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches will be postponed to March 2023. The AFCON was officially delayed earlier in July for early 2024 and with nations like Morocco and Tunisia appealing for more time to prepare for the World Cup earlier in 2022 it seemed inevitable that there would be a scheduling change.

CAF have not officially announced the scheduling change but the confirmation of friendly matches in September for Morocco as well as Ghana have made the decision all but official at this point. Late March will see the playing of the third and fourth matchdays before the final two international windows for qualifying take place in June 2023 and then September.
