Egyptian Premier League: Reserve-heavy Ahly delivers brilliant performance, Pyramids edge Arab Contractors

Al Ahly supporters did not expect much from their side after the club announced that they would use reserve and youth players with few starters for Sunday’s Egyptian Premier League matchup against Al Ittihad but the Red Devils came through with a spectacular performance. Ahmed Sayed scored two goals on his league debut for Ahly and Ziad Tarek scored the other in a 3-0 shutout for the third placed team, who thrived without pressure and made it look easy in Alexandria. Ahly are still ten points back but gave themselves some valuable momentum for the final six games of the season.

Ahly are three points back and have a game to make up on second placed Pyramids FC, who did just enough to shutout Arab Contractors 1-0 at home on Saturday. The hosts struggled to find a breakthrough but a set piece gave Pyramids the edge they needed soon after halftime. Abdallah Said’s corner kick was flicked into the six yard box by Walid El Karti and the ball bounced around before Ahmed Samy turned a low shot just inside the post for the game’s only goal.

Video of the goals from both games are below.
