African goal contributions in UEFA Champions League: September 6 & 7

The UEFA Champions League group stage kicked off this week and a couple of African players distinguished themselves during Tuesday and Wednesday’s action. Ghana national team playmaker Mohammed Kudus was disappointed not to have secured a transfer away from Dutch giants Ajax before the transfer deadline but showed no ill effects on Wednesday in Ajax’s dominant 4-0 victory over Rangers. Kudus got his first start of the 2022-23 season and provided a goal and an assist during his impressive performance.

Another notable moment was a goal from Burkina Faso’s Lassina Traoré in Shakhtar Donetsk’s stunning 4-1 win at Red Bull Leipzig. After a devastating long-term injury Traoré’s first goal in his second appearance back will be an important boost to his confidence.
