Al Ahly: New manager Koller arrives in Cairo, latest transfer announced

Al Ahly have a significant rebuilding project ahead of them for the 2022-23 season and the hiring of Swiss manager Marcel Koller was the first step made by the Cairo club over the weekend. The former FC Basel manager arrived in Cairo after the announcement of his hiring on Friday and made brief comments praising the level of club he joined ahead of his introductory press conference on Monday. Koller is signed to a two-year deal and will be tasked with leading Ahly back to the top of Egyptian football after the club’s supporters have had to endure watching hated rivals Zamalek win the last two Egyptian Premier League titles while their club finished outside of the top-2 for the first time in thirty years.

The club are looking to add talent to the squad, especially foreign players, and the acquisition of Brazilian forward Bruno Sávio was announced by former club and reigning Bolivian champions Bolívar. KingFut reports the transfer fee as being around $1 million after the 28-year-old enjoyed an excellent season with 16 goals in 31 appearances in league and Copa Libertadores play. Ahly will continue their squad building ahead of the 2022-23 Egyptian Premier League season as well as their participation in the 2022-23 CAF Champions League.
