The 2022 edition of the Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations got started on Friday in Mozambique with the host nation defeating Malawi 4-2 in the day’s only match. Goals from Nelson Manuel, Arroz, Chivale and Nelson led the Mambas to victory as Mozambique pulled away after a start that saw the teams neck and neck. Following the withdrawal of Nigeria, Group A is composed of only three teams and Mozambique’s next matchup against Morocco on Sunday will likely decide who advances to the semifinals.
Malawi got off to a surprise start and took the lead when Dala Simba latched on to a brilliant overhead flick and beat Mozambique goalkeeper Tivane. The hosts bounced back soon after Nelson Manuel flicked the ball up and performed an overhead kick finish to level the proceedings. Goals were traded once again with Malawi taking the lead through Ussi before Mozambique responded again with Arroz’s goal.
After Arroz leveled the match the hosts pulled away courtesy of Chivale and Nelson to satisfy the home crowd and win their opener. Highlights of the match are below.
