The money issues continue to build for ES Sétif with the departure of manager Hossam El Badry this week but it has not impacted the performance of Les Aigles Noirs as they cruised to a 4-0 Algeria Ligue 1 Professionnelle victory over Chelghoum on Sunday. Star midfielder Ahmed Kendouci scored twice to move to the top of the scoring chart and Ghiles Guenaoui also tallied a brace. The 2021-22 CAF Champions League semifinalists moved up to fifth place on fifteen points with the result.
ESS are five points back of league leaders CS Constantine who defeated RC Arbaâ 2-1 on the road. Benin national team forward Marcellin Koukpo opened the scoring in a match where all three goals came in the first half, Abdelhak Abdelhafid providing the winner in the 31st minute. CSC are one point ahead of reigning champions CR Belouizdad, who were not in great form on Saturday but kept their strong early season pace up by earning three points in a 1-0 shutout of MC El Bayadh. Abderrahmane Bourdim scored on a penalty kick in second half stoppage time as CRB benefitted from a foul call that was dubious at best.
