ES Sétif, MC Alger and reigning Algerian champions CR Belouizdad all continued their push towards the top of the table with victories on Wednesday in the Ligue 1 Professionnelle. CRB have not scored more than a goal in each of their last three league matches but the secure defense of Le Chabab maintained their strong form in a 1-0 road victory over ASO Chlef. Nigerian forward Anayo Iwuala used his immense pace to good effect, pressuring the ASO defense into a mistake on a long ball before calmly finishing past the goalkeeper.
CRB continue to stay on the heels of CS Constantine who remain one point ahead in first place following a 1-0 home win over NC Magra. Issad Lakdja scored the game’s only goal in the 50th minute for The Smurfs who have played two more matches than CRB.
MC Alger and ES Sétif also each earned three points on Wednesday. Ahmed Kendouci once again was the hero for ESS, scoring two goals in a 3-1 defeat over struggling Paradou ACwho have now lost three consecutive matches. Kendouci leads the Ligue 1 with seven goals and it appears a move to a new club is inevitable for the 23-year-old considering the financial problems at ESS. MCA defeated HB Chelghoum Laïd 1-0 away from home with a winning strike from distance by Khairedine Merzougui who is an important attacker since joining from CRB.
