Goals and assists from African players abroad: December 30-January 1

Many leagues around the world have not returned to action yet following the 2022 FIFA World Cup but top European leagues such as the English Premier League, France’s Ligue 1 and Spain’s La Liga are back and running meaning there were plenty of active Africans abroad over the New Years Day weekend. Ivory Coast captain Serge Aurier’s goal against Chelsea for Nottingham Forest is among the goals featured below but the African players on Saudi Pro League club Al Tai get the spotlight in our recap of Africans abroad. Cameroon national team right back Collins Fai provided two assists, Congolese striker Guy Mbenza scored and Algeria’s Amir Sayoud (pictured above) also provided a goal and assist including a header from Zimbabwe’s Knowledge Musona.

Watch all the goals and assists from African players over the weekend below. Of note is that no video of goals from Ligue 1 were available at the time of publishing. Habib Diallo and Abdallah Sima (Senegal) scored while Mohamed Camara (Mali), Ignatius Ganago (Cameroon), Ibrahima Koné (Mali) and Seko Fofana (Ivory Coast) provided assists in France’s top tier over the weekend.
