The Azzedine Ounahi transfer saga ends with Morocco star completing move to Marseille

After a long wait with clubs all over European football reported to be interested in his services, Morocco national team midfielder Azzedine Ounahi’s next destination is confirmed and the 22-year-old will be staying in French football. Ounahi completed a permanent transfer to Olympique Marseille from Angers for a fee reported to be €8 million (around $10 million). The club from the south of France announced they reached an agreement with Angers on their social media pages Saturday.

Ounahi was one of the 2022 FIFA World Cup’s breakout stars with a move from relegation threatened Angers seeming inevitable after Morocco finished in fourth place, the best-ever finish for a nation from Africa as well as the Arab World. The Casablanca native spent his youth career at famous club Raja CA as well as the Mohammed VI Academy before moving to French club Strasbourg soon after his eighteenth birthday.

The talented central midfielder ends his spell at Angers with 48 appearances scoring 2 goals over a season-and-a-half. Ounahi has 17 appearances and 2 goals with the Morocco senior national team where he displayed excellent control of the ball and quick decision making, a crucial part of Atlas Lions coach Walid Regragui’s tactics in Qatar.
