4 June: Nigeria-Cameroon friendly preview

Two of Africa’s historically successful national teams will square off in a friendly match on Friday when Cameroon faces Nigeria in Austria. Pan-Africa Football has collected several articles relating to the match from international, Nigerian and Cameroonian media for reading down below in English and French.

Soccernet Nigeria collects quotes from rising Nigerian forward Terem Moffi regarding his respect for the occasion between the historical West African rivals. Yemi Sodeeq of Owo Sports captures the perspective from Super Eagles vice-captain and regular in the center of defense, William Troost-Ekong, and his thoughts on how the team have looked in training. Goal’s Solace Chukwu acknowledges the rivalry between the two national teams but laments that the hasty arrangement of the friendly and the absence of several stars from both teams will make it likely that the best football will not be seen from both teams.

The Cameroonian perspective strikes a similar note regarding the absences of players. However, Actu Cameroon mentions that important forwards Eric Choupo-Moting and Karl Toko Ekambi are in camp and will be available to give the Indomitable Lions plenty of firepower up top. However, Christian Bassogog was not released by his club in China and regular starting right-back Olivier Mbaizo could not obtain a visa to travel to Austria from his base in the United States. CamFoot reports that AS Vita Club goalkeeper Simon Omossola will benefit from the absence of regulars Fabrice Ondoa and Andre Onana to get his chance as the starter between the sticks, a suitable reward for the Congolese-based keeper who has been in excellent form.
