Qualifying for the 2023 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations started back up this week with the opening fixtures of the WAFU-Zone A section being played on Sunday and Tuesday in host country Mauritania. Group B opened up the action with victories for Cape Verde and Senegal over Liberia and Guinea respectively before Gambia won their opener on Tuesday while Liberia and Senegal played to a 2-2 draw.
The hosts started off on Tuesday with a 2-1 victory over Guinea-Bissau while Mali dominated Sierra Leone by a 3-0 score to kick off Group A with three points for each of the favorites to advance. The top two sides in each group will advance to the semifinals where the semifinal winners will advance to the finals that will take place in Egypt starting on February 18.
