Two African clubs are through to the group stage of the 2023 Arab Club Champions Cup after confirming aggregate victories in the final preliminary stage this week. On Wednesday, Tunisian club US Monastir defeated Bahraini champions Al-Muharraq by a 1-0 score with Niger national team midfielder Youssouf Oumarou scoring the only goal. Oumarou finished to complete an excellent team movement as well as a 3-0 aggregate victory for the 2022-23 CAF Confederation Cup semifinalists. Monastir will play in Group C where they join Egypt’s Zamalek and Saudi clubs Al-Shabab and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr.
Earlier this week, recently crowned Libyan Cup champions Al Ahli Tripoli advanced following a 0-0 second leg result at Omani club Al Nahda. Ahli advanced with a 4-2 aggregate score and advance to the group stage where they will participate in Group B. The Libyan club will compete against Qatari club Al-Sadd, Saudi giants Al-Hilal and reigning African club champions Wydad AC of Morocco.
