Bahir Dar Stadium cleared for use in CAF interclub competitions

According to Ethiopian source Soccer Ethiopia the Bahir Dar International Stadium has been cleared for use when the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup preliminary rounds kick off next month in early September. After the stadium was ruled out for use by CAF in the midst of the Ethiopia national team’s 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, renovations were made to bring the stadium up to standard for both CAF interclub competition as well as the remainder of Ethiopia’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying schedule.

2021-22 Ethiopian Premier League winners Saint George SC and runners-up Fasil Kenema are set to represent the East African country in the CAFCL and CAFCC respectively and having home advantage will be a massive boost to the hopes of teams as they aim to reach the group stage in their campaigns. Saint George will compete against Sudanese champions Al Hilal Omdurman and are hosting the first leg during the opening matchday which is set for September 9-11. Fasil Kenema are favored to advance from the First Preliminary Round when they take on Burundi’s Bumamuru FC, champions of the 2021 edition of the country’s Coupe du PrĂ©sident.
