Sports betting company betPawa and the Ghana Premier League announced a sponsorship deal on Wednesday that will see betPawa and Ghana’s top division aligned until the 2025-26 season for $6 million. The agreement, announced at the headquarters of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) brings an end to a three-year period without the GPL having a main sponsor and GFA president Kurt Okraku hailed the agreement by stating, “for the country to be able to compete fiercely and on equal footing with other talents across the globe, there is the need for companies like betPawa and corporate Ghana to contribute…”
Zylofon Cash was the last previous sponsor of the GPL when the two entities agreed on a five-year, $10 million deal but it collapsed when Zylofon Cash pulled out abruptly only a year into the agreement. The 2022-23 Ghana Premier League will now be known as the betPawa Premier League with fixtures kicking off on the weekend of September 9.
