To much popular acclaim, the Zimbabwe national team and manager Zdravko Logarusic have brought in renowned former player Benjani Mwaruwari as an assistant coach ahead of the Warriors first FIFA World Cup qualifying matches in September. The 43-year-old striker had a long decorated club and national team career, spending over ten seasons in European football including playing six seasons in the English Premier League with Portsmouth, Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers as well as starring in France’s Ligue 1 and South Africa’s Premier Soccer League.
Benjani obtained a UEFA ‘A’ License in coaching during the Covid-19 lockdown while at his current base in the United Kingdom, and the coaching gig for Zimbabwe will be his first venture in his coaching career. The Herald has more on Benjani’s move and his first step into coaching in the link below.
