The top clubs from the Moroccan capital of Rabat responded to Friday’s victory from defending champions Wydad AC by keeping the pace at the top of the table with three points each over the weekend. Royal Army Club ASFAR emerged with a road victory in Khouribga, defeating OCK 2-0 through goals from Zakaria Fati and Lamine Diakité. Fernando da Cruz’s squad bounced back well from their Rabat Derby defeat to FUS Rabat and are tied with their rivals on 25 points following the result.
FUS matched their rivals with a win of their own but it was far from simple against Olympique Safi. It appeared the visitors from the western coast were on their way to securing three points when Malian forward Cheickne Samaké produced some mesmerizing dribbling before floating a cross for Mohamed El Morabit to volley home in the 75th minute but the visitors from the capital surged back with fury. Hamza Hanouri continued his excellent recent form by chesting down a long ball and firing in for the immediate response before Marouane Louadni did his best impression of Jackie Chan with a kung-fu style volley in second half stoppage time to win it in dramatic fashion.
Raja CA are quietly working their way back into the title discussion after a disastrous start to the season and the Green Eagles defeated struggling RS Berkane 2-0 away from home. Both teams had clear opportunities but it was not until the final stretch when the goals arrived. Mohamed Zrida’s bouncing shot from twenty yards out just snuck by RSB goalkeeper Hamza Hamiani and Mahmoud Bentayg wrapped up the victory six minutes later by lifting his finish over an advancing Hamiani after getting behind as RSB desperately pushed for an equalizer.
