Three goals in the final twenty minutes on Sunday completed a brilliant comeback for IR Tanger as the team won 3-2 against Botola Pro leaders Wydad Casablanca to move into a tie for third place. The result was stunning but the performance from the hosts fully justified their earning of the three points, the Wydad defense finally caving in from a focused IRT attack. Penalty kick conversions in the 72nd and 77th minutes from Youssouf Anouar and Axel Meye set the stage for a worthy winner in stoppage time by Mohamed Chibi from a free-kick.
It was much more routine for Morocco’s other top teams on Sunday. African Nations Championship winner Abdelilah Hafidi was the driving force in Raja Casablanca’s 2-0 win over Olympique Safi by providing an excellent finish in each half. Burkinabé legend Alain Traoré put the finishing touch on RS Berkane’s 2-0 victory over Difaa El Jadidi after an early Hamdi Laachir goal opened the scoring.
Raja are now one point behind rivals Wydad at the top of the table with one more game played. Berkane’s season has been a struggle but with match congestion set to be reduced, they still have the top of the table in remote sight. Highlights from all three of Sunday’s games are below.
