The feelings of uneasiness continued for Wydad AC supporters following the weekend’s slate of matches in Morocco’s Botola Pro with important fixtures approaching in the 2022 FIFA Club World Cup and CAF Champions League group stage. Wydad struggled to a scoreless draw at home against third placed FUS Rabat, dropping the Reds to a two-point deficit behind league leaders and FUS’s fellow Rabat club ASFAR. Even with the signing of Cameroonian forward Didier Lamkel Zé and the return of Senegalese striker Junior Bouly Sambou the Wydad attack is still struggling to produce goals and skepticism remains about the performance of recently hired coach Mehdi Nafti.
ASFAR are doing plenty to keep Wydad supporters uncomfortable, defeating Mouloudia Oujda 3-2 at home despite looking second best throughout. Youth product Igmane Hamza produced two clinical finishes to go along with a penalty kick from Diney Borges against MCO who looked very capable despite battling relegation. The opportunistic victory highlighted how ASFAR continue to obtain excellent results even if they do not dominate their opponents at times.
The league remains fiercely competitive and third placed FUS Rabat are three points ahead of several teams eager to push into the top three. Olympique Safi conceded first against Raja CA but stormed back with three goals to defeat the Green Eagles on Saturday and OCS further boosted their attack by signing accomplished striker Axel Méyé on loan from Raja over the weekend. RS Berkane continued their rise back towards the top five with a fourth consecutive 1-0 victory at Hassania Agadir leaving the Orange Boys only a point back of Raja and OCS.
Highlights from four matches are below following the list of scores from the weekend.
