Reigning African and Moroccan champions Wydad AC will have plenty of fixture congestion in the next months with an appearance at the 2022 FIFA Club World Cup approaching but the Reds are not in the best of form at the moment. However, after a losing start with new manager Mehdi Nafti the Casablanca club won their second straight league match on Friday with a 1-0 result over Hassania Agadir. Hosts Wydad struggled to create opportunities but a hot start was enough to give them the full three points. Imad Khannouss scored the only goal of the match in the 7th minute against his former team, converting with a first-time shot from a Mohammed Ounajem cross.
In Friday’s other match Difaâ El Jadida earned their first road win of the season at Mouloudia Oujda, finding a late goal from Zinedine Brighet in the seventh minute of second half stoppage time to edge the hosts. Senegalese forward Paul Valère Bassene, formerly of Teungueth FC, equalized for MCO but the club located nine miles from the Morocco-Algeria border continue to languish just outside of the relegation zone following the result.
Highlights from both of Friday’s games are below. Wydad are two points ahead of ASFAR and FUS Rabat, putting the pressure on the clubs from the capital ahead of their matches this weekend.
