The group stage of the 2022 Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations finished up on Monday with no real surprises. Egypt clinched second place in Group B with a 6-2 win over the Sand Cranes of Uganda, advancing to the semifinals along with tournament favorites Senegal. The Senegalese team cemented a perfect group stage record with yet another dominant victory over fourth place team Madagascar, winning 8-4.
Group A also determined which teams will advance with Morocco’s 7-3 victory over Malawi. An excellent start left the Moroccan team with little worries as they clinched first place and an all-North African matchup against Egypt in the semifinals. Hosts Mozambique, who were not in action on Monday, finish in second place and will have it all to do when they take on Senegal.
The semifinals will take place on Wednesday while Malawi and Uganda face off for fifth place at the competition. Madagascar finish in seventh place as the fourth placed team in Group B and will not need to take part in a playoff match due to Nigeria’s withdrawal before the competition.
