Caf Confederation Cup: Al-Ahly Benghazi 1-0 Enyimba – the Butchers edge the Peoples’ Elephant

It will be a thrilling finish to Group A in the CAF Confederation Cup following Al Ahly Benghazi’s crucial 1-0 home win over Nigeria’s Enyimba on Thursday. Postponed due to travel difficulties for visitors Enyimba in getting to Libya, the match was a tough battle with opportunities for both teams but the hosts took their chance to earn three points. Muttasem El Taib shot through a crowd of players in the 40th minute and Enyimba goalkeeper John Noble did not get a strong enough hand on the ball to keep it out of his net.

The result leaves a situation on the final matchday where all four teams have a chance at advancing. Group leaders Orlando Pirates sit on nine points but will travel to Nigeria to face Enyimba, who have earned all six of their points at home. Al Ahly Benghazi move into second place with seven points going into a trip to Algeria for a matchup against ES Sétif, who will be relieved that Thursday’s result keeps them in contention if they win next Wednesday.
