The first leg was played in thirteen of the sixteen matches from the 2023-24 CAF Confederation Cup with places in the group stage at stake for clubs all throughout the African continent. The home teams were mostly successful, most of all Ethiopia’s Bahir Dar Kenema. The club from the Amhara Region defeated Tunisia’s Club Africain by a 2-0 score at the Bahir Dar Stadium in what became a nightmare for supporters of the Tunisian club. CA coach Saïd Saïbi’s job is in serious danger following the defeat as Bahir Dar attempt to claim another scalp after surprising Tanzania’s Azam FC in the first round. Joining Bahir Dar Kenema as winners on Sunday are Tanzania’s Singida Fountain Gate, Libyan club Abu Salim SC and Stade Malien. Singida Fountain Gate came out on top with a 1-0 victory over Egyptian club Future FC in what is one of the more intriguing duels of the final qualifying stage.

Abu Salim SC defeated Uganda’s KCCA FC by a 3-1 score in Tunisia. Libya’s other participant in the competition, Al-Hilal Benghazi, saw their first leg match against Rwanda’s Rayon Sports postponed due to the catastrophic floods and damage in Libya.

Malian giants Stade Malien defeated Burundi’s Aigle Noir by a 2-0 score in Bamako while Republic of Congo club Diables Noirs were the only winner away from home following a 2-1 result over Zambia’s MUZA FC.
