CAF Confederation Cup: Future FC edge BUL FC, ASFAR hold off upset bid from Remo Stars

There were a couple of tense moments for the favorites in the first preliminary round of the 2022-23 CAF Confederation Cup over the weekend but teams such as Morocco’s ASFAR and AS Kigali of Rwanda avoided early elimination with second leg victories. Royal Army club ASFAR had it all to do after a shock 1-1 first leg draw at home against Nigeria’s Remo Stars but an expectant home crowd in Ikenne, Ogun State were disappointed to see the Moroccan team find a second half goal for their first ever win on Nigerian soil and a 2-1 aggregate victory over the well financed Nigerian club.

Uganda Cup winners BUL FC gave Egyptian club Future FC all they could handle but a first half red card doomed the Jinja side early on, who were forced to defend for most of the second leg in Egypt before an excellent free kick from Cameroonian Joseph Ngwem put Future ahead for good in the second half. After first leg draws on the road, AS Kigali and South Africa’s Royal AM found the goals they needed at home for 1-0 and 2-0 aggregate victories respectively.
