After last season’s inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League did not feature any prize money handed out to the participating teams, CAF announced that the 2022 edition will see the finalists receive substantial financial rewards. The winner of the 2022 edition, set to take place in Morocco, will receive $400,000 while the runner-up will get $250,000 for their efforts. The increased interest in women’s football on the continent comes following the 2021 CAFWCL and particularly the 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations which saw South Africa defeat hosts Morocco in the final on Saturday.
The South Africa women’s side will receive $50,000 for their success in Morocco and each player is set to get $23,250 from the South Africa Football Association (SAFA) for taking home the trophy.
