CAFCC Group D: Niger’s USGN jumps into contention while RS Berkane take down Simba for top spot

The two favorites in Group D of the CAF Confederation Cup squared off at the Stade Municipal in Berkane, Morocco as hosts RS Berkane defeated Tanzanian giants Simba SC 2-0 on Sunday. Mauritanian national team playmaker Adama Ba stole the show with a stunning free kick that beat Simba keeper Aishi Manula and rattled in off the post in the 32nd minute to give RSB the lead. A few minutes before halftime it was Charki El Bahri who headed in a corner kick from Hamza El Moussaoui to double the lead and put the hosts beyond reach. Berkane move to six points and two beyond second placed Simba following the result.

Nigerien club USGN headed into Sunday in last place with only a point, but a crucial 2-0 victory over Ivorian champions ASEC Mimosas in Niger’s capital city of Niamey boosted them back into the picture and even with Simba on four points.
