Chippa United on course to retain DStv Premiership status with Richards Bay FC draw

Chippa United took a major step towards retaining their top division status in South African football with a 1-1 draw at Richards Bay on Saturday in the three-team playoff between Chippa and the second and third placed teams in the GladAfrica Championship, South Africa’s second tier. The Chilli Boys are now in first place in the playoff, three points ahead of the Natal Rich Boys of Richards Bay with plenty of uncertainty remaining about the status of the third team, Royal AM, who refused to turn up for their opening two games due to a dispute with the GladAfrica Championship over their claims that they should have been in the top spot over Sekhukhune.

IOL’s Eshlin Vedan has the match report from the match on Saturday as there is still plenty to be settled over the status of the playoff, but Chippa look in good shape currently to avoid the drop this season.
