The Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) will hold its flagship national team competition in Durban, South Africa this year with the 2022 COSAFA Cup set to be played from July 5-17. South Africa won last year’s edition, defeating guest nation Senegal in the final via a penalty kick shootout, and will aim to repeat as winners while serving as hosts for the fifth straight year.
As things stand, all-time record winners Zimbabwe will not be eligible to participate due to their ongoing ban from FIFA but COSAFA stated that if the ban is reversed before the competition the Warriors are welcome to take part. Fan attendance will also be permitted after the 2021 edition in Port Elizabeth was unable to welcome supporters due to Covid-19.
