Covid-19 continues to have major effects in South Africa with its football scene not being an exception among the industries impacted. DStv Premiership side SuperSport United acknowledged this week that its youth academy, perhaps the best in South Africa, has been forced to cut back operations due to the pandemic. Due to declining sponsorship and the cost of looking after academy members who get sick, club CEO Stan Mathews stated that SuperSport will restructure the system with residential care for players under the age of 16 being scrapped.
