Despite having the majority of chances, Golden Arrows missed out on an opportunity to move back into second place in the DStv Premiership by dropping points in a 1-1 home draw against Bloemfontein Celtic. The visitors did well to keep Arrows’ early waves of attacks out and took their opportunity well to put the hosts behind thanks to Mzwanele Mahashe’s header bouncing off teammate Victor Lesoalo and into the goal from a 34th minute corner-kick.
Golden Arrows continued to hunt for their goal and finally obtained the equalizer in the 72nd minute. Substitute Siphamandla Sabelo unleashed a shot that deflected onto the crossbar before Zimbabwean forward Knox Mutizwa was in the right spot to head home the rebound. However, Arrows failed to push through for the victory and will be disappointed to be held 1-1 at home.
In the later match Swallows finally got over the hurdle and earned a victory, their first following a nine-game winless streak in the league that featured plenty of draws. Surviving early opportunities from a last-placed Black Leopards side that needs points desperately, Swallows started to take control of the match and began pushing as time went on. A clumsy challenge in the Leopards penalty area led to a 61st minute spot-kick that was converted by Ghanaian forward Daniel Gozar, giving Swallows a lead to hold onto for three points.
