DStv Premiership: Listless Kaizer Chiefs fall to TS Galaxy

With hopes of a turnaround from their supporters for the 2023-24 season, fortunes have not improved for Kaizer Chiefs and the club’s continuing slump was well illustrated in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at TS Galaxy. Chiefs head coach Molefi Ntseki was jeered by confrontational traveling Chiefs supporters after his team fell to defeat in Mbombela and Amakhosi now have only one point from three matches.

Chiefs’ struggles are clear but credit must be given to TS Galaxy who continue to build their status in South African football. There were promising signs from Chiefs in the opening stages who nearly found the net through new signing Ranga Chivaviro but it was an ominous sign when the former Marumo Gallants star was forced off before the half hour mark due to injury.

Galaxy made the visitors pay for their wastefulness early in the second half. Lehlohonolo Mojela won the battle to reach a ball played over the top of the Chiefs defense and laid a pass back for Higor Vidal. The Brazilian put his shot off the post but the ball came back off diving Amakhosi goalkeeper Brandon Peterson and rebounded back in for an own goal. The drop in confidence was plain to see in Chiefs whose efforts to come back were lacking in all departments.
