South Africa’s DStv Premiership featured a couple of heavyweights putting in quality performances while one fell to a humiliating defeat. Defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns took a while to put their finishing boots on but two goals in two minutes during the second half finally broke the resistance of TS Galaxy in Pretoria on Sunday. Peter Shalulile and defender Mosa Lebusa provided the finishing touches on the first two goals before Thabiso Kutumela tallied late in a cameo appearance.
The other match on Sunday saw a very similar story as SuperSport United also saved their goalscoring for the second half in a 3-0 victory of their own at Swallows FC. Jamie Webber scored from the penalty spot before star midfielder Teboho Mokoena added the second goal a minute later and Thamsanqa Gabuza dispatched his own spot kick to finish the humiliation of the Soweto team.
Top division newcomers Royal AM made the headlines on the weekend with a devastating 4-1 road victory at Kaizer Chiefs. Victor Letsoalo was clinical with his finishing for Royal AM as the pressure continues to increase on Chiefs manager Stuart Baxter after only several games in his tenure. Orlando Pirates came out on top in another Saturday matchup by overcoming an early strike from Phakamani Mahlambi to overtake Chippa United by a 3-1 score.
Highlights from all four games are below.
Mamelodi Sundowns 3-0 TS Galaxy
Chippa United 1-3 Orlando Pirates
Kaizer Chiefs 1-4 Royal AM
