The first slate of fixtures in the DStv Premiership finished up on Sunday with two games and every team came out with a point following draws between TS Galaxy and AmaZulu as well as between SuperSport United and Chippa United. The opening match of the day featured a sleepy affair between Galaxy and AmaZulu where both teams struggled to challenge either goalkeeper. Galaxy had an excellent look to win it late on but Masilakhe Phohlongo’s low shot was well kept out by AmaZulu keeper Veli Mothwa.
Manager Gavin Hunt returned to SuperSport United for the 2022-23 season where he found plenty of previous success and opened the season against the team he directed last season, Chippa United. However his team had to come back from an early deficit at home after Zimbabwean defender Ronald Pfumbidzai sent a perfectly placed header in off a Siphelele Luthuli free kick in the 17th minute. SuperSport United found their leveler late on courtesy of Bradley Grobler, who initiated an attack with a through ball that led to a goal mouth scramble before he surged in to apply the finishing touch soon after the hour mark.
Highlights from both of Sunday’s games are below.
SuperSport United 1-1 Chippa United
TS Galaxy 0-0 AmaZulu
