DStv Premiership: Ribeiro double sees Sundowns past Polokwane, Kaizer Chiefs make it two wins in a row

Two goals from Brazilian forward Lucas Ribeiro Costa were all Mamelodi Sundowns needed to defeat their latest foe in the DStv Premiership as Masandawana defeated hosts Polokwane City 2-0 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium. The former Beveren attacker converted a penalty kick inside the opening quarter hour and then put Sundowns beyond reach early in the second half. Sundowns now have an eight-point lead at the top of the table with a perfect record of six wins from six matches.

Wednesday also saw Kaizer Chiefs continue their positive momentum. Amakhosi followed up their victory over the weekend against AmaZulu with an impressive 2-0 result at Stellenbosch FC. An inspired second half saw Pule Mmodi score his third goal in two matches with an excellent long range effort before Congolese attacker Christian Saile finished off Usuthu with a late goal. Chiefs move into the top five for the time being following the result.

Swallows FC, AmaZulu and Royal AM were the other winners on Wednesday while Richards Bay and Sekhukhune United played to a 1-1 draw. The attention in South African soccer will now turn to the semifinals of the MTN 8 this weekend with the first leg of the semifinal where Stellenbosch face Orlando Pirates while Kaizer Chiefs duel with Sundowns.
