Most of the DStv Premiership’s teams have played eighteen matches as the second half of the 2022-23 campaign in South Africa’s top tier picks up speed with Mamelodi Sundowns boosting their lead to twenty-one points following a 2-0 victory over Sekhukhune United. Peter Shalulile continued his return to form and rising talent Cassius Mailula also scored in yet another fruitful outing for the club and their supporters. Sundowns are in excellent shape as their season prepares to pick up speed with the CAF Champions League group stage approaching.
The rest of the table has games to make up on Sundowns but the competition between the rest of the field gives little hope that the Brazilians will be challenged. Orlando Pirates look the most likely club to mount a challenge for second place with a third consecutive victory over relegation-bound Marumo Gallants, winning 2-0. The Happy People continue to take advantage of a stretch of struggling opponents and are three points back of second placed Richards Bay, who found a late equalizer to draw local rivals AmaZulu 1-1.
Kaizer Chiefs put a stop to their bleeding by ending a three-match losing streak with their 2-0 victory over free falling Royal AM. Under pressure coach Arthur Zwane made changes at the goalkeeper and central defender positions with shot stopper Brandon Petersen and center back Siyabonga Ngezana returning to the starting eleven in the win.
