The Stade Municipal in Ouagadougou was the scene for the Coupe du Faso final on Sunday where historic club Étoile Filante de Ouagadougou won the competition for the 22nd time with a 3-0 victory over Salitas FC. Honoré Yé scored two goals and Ciriac Ouédraogo added another for EFO who emerged victorious in a final that was attended by Burkinabé president Ibrahim Traoré as well as guest of honor and African footballing legend Samuel Eto’o.
Salitas, runners-up in the recently completed Fasofoot D1 season, had two opportunities to take the lead inside the opening ten minutes but EFO goalkeeper Salifou Coulibaly was in top form to tip over on both occasions. EFO gained strength from the large number of its supporters but the performance of Coulibaly kept Les Stellistes level by halftime with another excellent save to deny the leading scorer of the Fasofoot D1, Salif Bagaté, in the 37th minute.
EFO transformed into a new team in the second half and took the lead before ten minutes elapsed when a long ball from Kader Sana bounced behind the Salitas defense to Yé who finished past keeper Paul Kagambéga. The lead was doubled by a moment of brilliance from Ouédraogo in the 67th minute when he curled in a beautiful free kick beyond the dive of Kagambéga. A stellar second half performance was completed by Yé around the 80th minute when his shot snuck into the goal after being assisted by a quick passing combination.
