Zamalek may be far out of the race to win the 2022-23 Egyptian Premier League but The White Knights are enjoying excellent recent form under head coach Juan Carlos Osorio. The club from Cairo unleashed a storm of goals on fellow Premier League side Arab Contractors in Tuesday’s 6-1 victory in the quarterfinals of the 2022-23 Egypt Cup.
Zizo scored twice in the opening forty minutes and Seifeddine Jaziri contributed a hat-trick in a pleasing victory for the club’s supporters. Veteran club legend Shikabala was also highly involved with a goal and an assist on Jaziri’s first goal before exiting at the hour mark. Any doubts about Zamalek failing to qualify for CAF club competition are long extinguished at this point but supporters will have to be content with a place in the CAF Confederation Cup rather than the Champions League.
In the earlier match played on Tuesday, ENPPI joined Zamalek and Pyramids FC in the semifinals with a 3-1 victory over third tier side Nogoom FC. Nogoom were the last team outside of the Premier League remaining in the cup and put up a good fight with a splendid long range strike from Abdullah Jamal in the 22nd minute cancelling out the opening goal from ENPPI’s Emad Abdelrahman. However the Premier League team asserted themselves in the second half with goals from Saif Elkhashab and Ahmed Ibrahim eliminating any hopes of another cup upset for Nogoom.
Highlights from both matches on Tuesday are below. There will be a long wait for the semifinalists with two Round of 16 ties yet to be played. Al Masry will face Haras El Hodood on Thursday and Al Ahly host El Dakhleya at the end of the month before the two winners will face off in another quarterfinal next month.
