The fixture congestion continues for Al Ahly but the Egyptian Premier League leaders are showing no signs of a decline in form. Ahly cruised to two more victories in league play over the past few days with a 2-0 victory over El Gaish followed up by Monday’s 1-0 defeat of Ceramica Cleopatra. Hussein El Shahat received an excellent floated pass from Mahmoud Metwaly over the Ceramica Cleopatra defense and did the rest by cutting inside to finish past goalkeeper Mohamed Bassam for the only goal of the match in the 57th minute.
Ahly remain four points ahead of Pyramids FC with four matches less played than their closest competitors. Pyramids did their part on Monday with a 2-1 victory at Al Ittihad in Alexandria. Ibrahim Adel’s opening goal was cancelled out by Al Ittihad midfielder Amar Hamdy in the first half but South Africa national team forward Fagrie Lakay restored the lead for Pyramids in the 71st minute. Pyramids are four points clear of third placed Future FC and are closing in on qualification for next season’s CAF Champions League.
Video of the goals from both matches on Monday are below. Al Ahly now turn their attention to the CAF Champions League final against Wydad AC of Morocco with the first leg taking place in Cairo on Sunday.
