Ceramica Cleopatra spent big to bring in quality players ahead of the 2022-23 Egyptian Premier League season. However, while the club with big ambitions challenged defending champions Zamalek last week they ran into another ambitious club in National Bank of Egypt and fell to a 3-1 defeat on Tuesday. An own goal followed by a Karim Bambo strike saw Ceramica fall to a 2-0 deficit in the opening half hour before former Zamalek forward Razack Cissé put the match away in the second half. The Ivorian also assisted Bambo’s goal in his first start for Bank Al Ahly who move into the top-5 following the result while Ceramica have one win and two defeats through their opening three matches.
Like Ceramica, Alexandria-based club Al Ittihad struggled last season and fell dangerously close to the relegation zone but are aspiring to greater heights in the 2022-23 campaign with a perfect three wins from three matches so far. Ittihad fell behind in the first half but rallied with three goals in the second half to defeat Tala’ea El Gaish 3-1 on Monday. Veteran Angolan striker Mabululu struck in the 68th minute to level the match and assisted on Ittihad’s final goal after Khaled Sobhi put the hosts in the lead in the 79th minute.
Another Alexandrian club, Smouha, could only manage a scoreless draw at newly promoted Haras El Hodood and the same score resulted in a clash between Arab Contractors and Pharco FC to round out Monday and Tuesday’s results. Watch the goals from Bank Al Ahly and Ittihad’s victories below.
