After putting up a defiant stand in their opening match to draw gold medal favorites Spain 0-0, Egypt could not quite replicate the feat and fell 1-0 to Argentina on Sunday in the Summer Olympics men’s tournament. The Egyptians put up more of an offensive display and had their chances to strike first, but in the 52nd minute Argentina defender Facundo Medina redirected a header from a cross off the post of the Egyptian goal before reacting quickest to put in the rebound from close range. Egypt are now bottom of Group C with one point with a win needed against Australia in their final group stage match to keep them in contention for a spot in the knockout rounds.
