Ethiopian Premier League: Wolaitta Dicha win battle of mid-table sides and Sebeta City earn three points to move into third

Friday’s action from the Ethiopian Premier League saw both matches end in shutout victories for Wolaitta Dicha and Sebeta Kenema. Wolaitta Dicha turned in a solid performance and did not let missed opportunities in the first half deter them from scoring a 2-0 victory over Bahir Dar Kenema. The team from Sodo in the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples region nearly gifted Bahir Dar a goal early in the second half when Ghanaian goalkeeper Sammy Adjei was slow to clear a backpass with Bahir Dar failing to capitalize on the resulting giveaway.

The opener came soon after in the 55th minute when Chernet Gugsa sized up his defender on the corner of the Bahir Dar penalty area, cut inside and then lashed a powerful effort past a stunned Bahir Dar keeper. Twenty minutes later Gugsa was there again to latch onto a bouncing ball into the Bahir Dar box and used his left foot this time to bounce an effort into the net.

In the later match both teams had limited chances throughout the match but Sebeta Kenema rode an unfortunate Wolkite Kenema own goal late on to get three points. In the 81st minute a low cross from the left wing that had little hope of connecting with a Sebeta attacker was redirected into his own goal by Wolite defender Tomas Simretu. The result moves Sebeta into third place, a point behind Ethiopian Coffee.

Highlights from both games are below.
