Faisal’s header secures late win for Zamalek over El Gaish

In a thrilling encounter on Thursday in the Egyptian Premier League, Zamalek capped off a remarkable comeback thanks to a last gasp winner from young striker Osama Faisal for his first goal of the season to overcome a scrappy El Gaish side. The result is crucial for the hosts, who need to keep earning three points whenever they can with rivals Al Ahly having four games to make up as well as a ten-point deficit on the table.

El Gaish started the scoring in the 27th minute when in-form striker Amr Gamal tallied his 10th goal of the season, being sent in by an Islam Mohareb through ball and smoothly lifting the ball over sliding Zamalek keeper Mohamed Awad before easily tapping into an empty net. The match was relatively even throughout with numerous attempts on goal for both teams. However, the hosts stepped up their efforts and increased the urgency after the break with Tunisian forward Seifeddine Jaziri finally scoring his first league goal for the side to equalize in the 60th minute.

Jaziri’s finish was well done with precision but the hosts needed to find a winner and it finally came with Faisal’s goal in stoppage time. Ahmed Sayed put a free-kick into the box and Faisal did well to meet the ball with his head to loop it beyond Mohamed Bassam, breaking El Gaish fans’ hearts who had thought their team did enough to earn a road point.

Egypt Today has a match report in the link below and video of the goals are further below. In the other matches on the day El Gouna and Ghazl El Mahallah played out a scoreless draw while El Masry edged Alexandria’s Al Ittihad thanks to an 89th minute winner by Hassan Ali from the penalty spot.
