A spot in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup as well as 2 million Kenyan shillings (about $15,000) are up for grabs in Kenya’s Mozzart Bet FKF Cup which completed its quarterfinal round over the weekend. Two of the country’s most well known clubs are through to the semifinals after AFC Leopards and Tusker FC recorded victories by multiple goals.
Four-time cup champions Tusker scored twice in the final half hour to take down Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB SC) on Saturday in Nairobi with the goals coming from David Odoyo and Ugandan forward Deogracious Ojok. Tusker have a date with Ulinzi Stars in the semifinals after the club from Nakuru in the Great Rift Valley edged Sofapaka FC in a penalty kick shootout after the teams played to a 1-1 draw.
AFC Leopards are not reaching the heights their supporters are accustomed to in the FKF Premier League but Ingwe are in contention to move level with rivals Gor Mahia on nine FKF Cup trophies in their history after crushing fellow top division side Bandari FC by a 3-0 score. All three goals arrived in the opening half hour to help Leopards sink the Dockers from Mombasa. Leopards will face Kakamega Homeboyz in the semifinals who showed no mercy in a 6-1 thumping of Kariobangi Sharks on Sunday.
