RS Berkane’s victory in the semifinals of Morocco’s domestic cup competition, the Coupe du Trône, has only delayed the inevitable news of the departure of Congolese manager Florent Ibengé when the team’s current season ends. Despite winning the 2021-22 CAF Confederation Cup and qualifying for a final matchup against Wydad AC in the Coupe du Trône, Ibengé and his team’s poor performance in the Botola Pro season has sealed his fate.
Uneven performances saw Berkane finish in 8th place in Morocco’s domestic league and the club’s management has determined they will prefer a new coach to lead them in next season’s CAFCC as they attempt to defend their title. Ibengé will not be short of any offers for future employment with several prominent African clubs approaching him for his services as well as the DR Congo national team, who recently dismissed Argentine manager Héctor Cúper.
